No matter what “they” tell you . . .

Since we at The Gay Publishing Company recognize the film and video industries as forms of publishing, we wish to extend our congratulations to those associated with the film Milk. While we are equally glad that Slumdog Millionaire got a good share of the Oscar pie, Milk received two prestigious awards:

  • Sean Penn, Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
  • Dustin Lance Black, Original Screenplay

Dustin Black offered some heartfelt words in his acceptance speech:

“. . . to all of the gay and lesbian kids out there tonight who have been told that they are ‘less than’ by their churches or by the government or by their families . . . you are beautiful, wonderful creatures of value and . . . no matter what anyone tells you, God does love you.”

This sentiment is behind our mission here at The Gay Publishing Company, as well, and is central to all we believe and hope to present to the world in our publications. To read the entire transcript of Dustin’s speech, visit this page at glaadBLOG; to view Dustin’s presentation, watch it here, at Good As You (a video of Dustin’s short behind-the-curtain press conference appears lower on this same page). You might also want to view Sean’s acceptance speech.

Again, congratulations to all who worked on this project, and thank you, thank you to all who lived it in reality!
