I am excited to announce that The Gay Publishing Company has finally lined up enough investors and funding to make a run for the starting line. While, the amount we’ve been pledged is not the total amount we were striving to raise, the team is confident that we can safely plan for a phased opening that will be ready for a virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 1, 2009. What that means is that our reading lists and bookstore, a variety of online stories and resources, and at least one sample issue of our virtual magazine will be ready for subscribers. What that also means is that you, our supporters, will be receiving a slew of announcements as we begin seeking opinions and comments, opening new sections of the Web site for readers, and accepting early-bird subscriptions.
Yes, we will continue to seek investors and secure additional funds (contact us if you are interested), but we are officially calling in all existing pledges by June 1, 2009. That allows a full two months—but only two months—to shift from company cheerleaders and fund seekers to editors, coaches, and publishers. But then, that is a shift we’ve been dreaming and dreaming and dreaming about! During those two months, you’ll be able to see the publishing side of this enterprise begin blossoming into what we’ve hoped it would be for more than a year and a half.
For now, I want to thank you all for your patience and words of encouragement. As I’ve told many potential investors, I’ve been ready to admit defeat many times, especially over the past several months as the economy has continued to dissolve what little relationship we once had! But, it never failed—fortunately—that those days always ended in an e-mail or a phone call or a letter thanking one of us for what we were planning to do.
Watch for further announcements with schedules, trials, and announcements as we start up. And, don’t hesitate to complain when you want to complain or praise when you want to praise. We’ll surely need some of both!
