Why Amazon doesn’t do anyone any favors

Until I get time to actually create a post on what many in the small-publishing industry call “the monster,” here are some timely and relevant links that will help you make up your own minds:

A general introduction to the “major” event that broke the proverbial camel’s back is posted here, on Advocate.com (“Amazon De-ranks Books With Gay Content,” by Julie Bolcer, posted April 12, 2009):

A follow-up article (“Amazon Says ‘Error’ Caused Book De-rankings,” by Julie Bolcer, posted on April 14, 2009) appears here:

A much more detailed account of Amazon’s actions and an examination/explanation of the real impact, in a general sense, appears here, on Booksquare.com, a publishing industry blog (“Open Letter to Amazon Regarding Recent Policy Changes,” by Kassia Krozser, April 12th, 2009):

This post also contains updates, a variety of links to additional information and hundreds of comments and responses from the blog’s readers.

A quick note, “OMG, they’re censoring gay books: Amazon.com,” with several links to action sites and information, appears here, on PinkBananaWorld.com. This post actually appeared originally on OMGblog.com, which has posted some updates since the event (including at least a couple of the “official” responses):

More information and some conclusions will follow . . . some day!
